San Jose is the heart of the Silicon Valley and the largest city in the Bay Area of Northern California. However, the city has a humble history as a small farming community with thriving fruit orchards and vastly undeveloped land. It was not until after World War II that the city began to have an influx in population and rapid growth of the technology sector.
In the 1990s, San Jose earned the moniker of Silicon Valley, and it continues to be a hub for some of the largest tech companies in the world. San Jose is also noted as one of the most expensive cities to live in the country with one of the most competitive real estate markets. Recently, San Jose has also become known for its public art scene, which is an evolving feature of the city supported by local artists.
