How Good Samaritan is Using Texting to Improve Patients' ER Experience

Text ER for Wait Times

Good Samaritan Hospital is taking steps to beat this national average ER wait time by providing San Jose patients with the care they need in a timely manner. One way we are doing this is through the use of emergency room wait time text messaging.

Good Samaritan Hospital is one of two San Jose hospitals to make ER wait times available to the public via the Web and texting. This program strives to help area residents determine the shortest wait times at their local emergency facilities so that they can receive the high-quality and timely emergency care they expect. By texting “ER” to 23000 from a cell phone and replying with a zip code, our users can receive average emergency room wait times. Our text message program works using a technology that links our emergency room computer systems with the texting abilities of a cell phone. This allows mobile device users to learn the average amount of time our recent patients have been waiting to see a medical professional.

Our ER wait times represent a four-hour rolling average that is updated every 30 minutes and is defined as the time a patient arrives at our facility until they are greeted by a qualified medical professional. Patients are triaged upon their arrival and seen in order of priority based on the reason for their visit and chief presenting complaint. Our team of emergency room staff members includes Doctors of Medicine (MD), Doctors of Osteopathy (DO), Physician’s Assistants (PA), and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP).

Whether you are looking for a maternity hospital, cardiac care hospital, or quality emergency care facility, Good Samaritan Hospital is here to help. We are also one of the first five hospitals in the United States certified by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center. Learn more by calling (408) 559-2011, or contact us online.
